Welcome to the Online Fraction Calculator

Welcome to this powerful and easy-to-use mixed number calculator! Whether you need to solve simple fraction problems or tackle complex expressions with mixed numbers and parentheses, this tool is here to help. This guide will walk you through all its features.

How to Enter Fractions and Expressions

Our calculator features a simple text input box where all your calculations begin.

  • Entering Proper Fractions
To enter a fraction, use the forward slash / to separate the numerator and denominator.
    • Example: To enter three-fourths, simply type 3/4 into the input box.
  • Entering Mixed Numbers
This is a key feature of our calculator for mixed numbers. To enter a mixed number, use the format “integerfraction”.
    • Example: To enter two and one-third, you would type 2 1/3 by typing the number 2, pressing the spacebar once, and then typing the fraction 1/3.
  • Entering Complex Expressions
Feel free to build expressions with parentheses and multiple operations, just as you would on paper.
    • Example: To calculate “(one and a half plus two-thirds) times three,” you should enter (1 1/2 + 2/3) * 3.
  • Entering Negative Numbers
You can easily enter a negative number or fraction by placing a minus sign – at the beginning.
    • Example: To enter negative three-fifths, just type -3/5.

Supported Operations

This versatile fraction addition and subtraction calculator supports all four basic arithmetic operations:

  • Addition +
  • Subtraction –
  • Multiplication *
  • Division /

Results and Simplification

After you press the “=” button, the result will be displayed in the clearest and simplest format possible.

  • Automatic Simplification and Reduction
You never have to worry if your answer is in its simplest form. Our system acts as both a fraction simplifier calculator and a fraction reducer calculator. All results are automatically reduced to their simplest form.
    • Example: If a calculation results in 10/4, the system will automatically simplify it and display the result as the mixed number 2 1/2.
    • Example: If the result is 6/9, it will be automatically reduced and shown as 2/3.
  • Result Format
For easier reading, all results greater than 1 are shown as mixed numbers by default.
